Did you know you can use Udda Budda as a natural deodorant?
That’s right- the same body butter you love can be used as an all-natural deodorant (that actually works). There’s no reason you need to spend $10+ on a single stick of deodorant which only has one use, when you can make the same thing (minus the preservatives) right from the comfort of your own home, using your favorite body butter.
Now, you could use Udda Budda by itself as a deodorant, and it may work alright as the tallow itself creates an environment that is less than ideal for odor-causing bad bacteria, but when you add a few other ingredients, it becomes an odor-fighting cream that can be safely used anywhere you may get a little stinky during the day!
I wanted to start with this recipe as many of the ingredients used to make the deodorant are also going to be used in other recipes I plan on sharing. This keeps the over all cost down in the long run when building off the Udda Budda base! Aren’t multi-use products the best?! Yeah, we think so too!
Ok, Let’s get started!
What You Will Need*:
- 2 tbs of Udda Budda
- 1 tbs of arrowroot powder
- 1 tsp of baking soda (can substitute bentonite clay or kaolin clay)
- Container with lid to store deodorant
- (Optional: Pinch of Activated Charcoal, essential oil)
How To Make:
- Place Udda Budda into a small microwave-safe bowl, and microwave at 2-3 second intervals until Udda Buda is soft but not completely melted.
- Stir in dry ingredients until blended (this is also where you can add extra essential oil (Lavender, peppermint, tea tree oil etc.) for more scent or activated charcoal- just be mindful you don’t add too much as either can stain your clothes!)
- Scoop mixture into container and put into refrigerator until it becomes slightly solidified (Mixture should be opaque but "mushy") About 10-30 minutes depending on how melted mixture was when you put it into fridge.
- Give mixture a stir making sure that if any solids sunk to the bottom they are mixed throughout. (Smooth top with finger or back of spoon if you want.)
- Put mixture into fridge to solidify the rest of the way
That’s it! You are good to go to use your homemade all-natural deodorant! We recommend using about a pea-sized amount or less and rubbing in until absorbed.
Make sure that you leave enough time after applying to make sure the deodorant absorbs fully into your skin. You can also use these adorable bamboo deodorant applicators if you prefer not to scoop it from the jar and apply it with your fingers.
As with any skincare product, do a skin test prior to use. Udda Budda deodorant is for external use only. Keep away from your eye area. Baking-soda can be a skin irritant, so if you have sensitive skin we recommend using a clay alternative or omitting it all together and adding an extra tablespoon of arrowroot powder.
(I'm also going to include this link for a variety pack of clays just in case anyone is looking for an even more cost- effective way of shopping!)
*You can adjust this recipe to fit the amount you want to make.
